"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
And if I have anything, it's a ton of enthusiam! Over the years, I've saved a lot of quotes and Ralph had a lot of great ones - including the one on how he didn't want to be told a quote!
What am I enthusiastic about today? Being local. I know it's not quite time yet, but as spring is just around the corner and your local farmers markets will be back in full swing, I want to encourage everyone to check out this website - Localharvest.org. It is the easiest to use website I've ever been on, after entering our zipcode and hitting search I found NUMEROUS farms within a very small distance of us that we can go to buy all of our fruits, veggies, eggs and meat! I'm really excited about this because although I've found local produce before - I've never found a place to buy meat and now I have a few!
My plan for our family is to visit one of these places every week this month. So that we can become familiar with them ahead of the busy time and so that I can show Noah where REAL food comes from.
A couple of years ago we watched Food, Inc. If you haven't seen this film - SEE IT. If you saw it and it hasn't changed the way you think about food - SHAME ON YOU.... watch it again. :) I'm not going to go into great detail about the movie, because I want you to watch it for yourselves. Needless to say, it changed the way I thought about food, ever since then I've made big changes and little changes to the way we eat and shop, but this year I'm making a big push to keep things as local as possible. Honestly, we couldn't live in a better spot, we can get everything we need without traveling more than an hour an way. Northern California is amazing that way.
Shortly after we watched Food, Inc, guess what was on? Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution - And of course we watched that too. I love the push to take better care of ourselves, examine what's going into our bodies and our precious childrens', and support our local families. I can't say enough how important I think it is.
I'm not perfect, by any means....(I had RedVines & a SugarFree RedBull for dinner last night!) but I always want to do my best for myself and for my family. Quite honestly, I'm the woman in this house and I believe I'm the overseer of what everyone gets fed. It's my job to make sure my family is healthy, full, happy and thriving!
Anyway, that's my focus *read- "soapbox"* for February. I hope you'll take a look at the website -http://www.localharvest.org/ - and visit a local farm or two!
Happy February!!!

Hm... interesting. I'm bad about that. I'm bad about food in general. *sigh*
Yeah!!!!You know as a kid that is all I had to eat practically was food that was grown by Mom and Dad. I will have to admit ==I didn't like gathering some of the things but now as I think about it, it was one of the most wonderful gifts my parents could give me. I certainly will check out the site.
