2010 Winter Olympics

I LOVE the Olympics! I love the hype, the athletes, the ceremonies, the torch, the tradition; I love all of it! I'm a cryer, completely. The countdown begins and I'm a goner! I get overwhelmed with emotion everytime I watch a BIG sporting event anyway and the horrible tragedy that surrounded the opening today didn't help. The Georgian team came in and Noah ran straight to the bathroom to get his poor Mom tissue. What a great kid! How sad though, I'm rooting for Georgia all the way this year! I have no idea how good they are or what they compete in, but I'll be watching and rooting for them! I just think the Olympics are so amazing. The whole world comes together to celebrate. In sociology we've studied cultural universals and sports is one of them. I think it's the neatest one; no matter what country you're in (mostly) sports of some sort are available. For some countries that's all they have. I won't go on about it all, but if you look up some of the countries journey just to be able to be there, it's crazy.
With Canada being the host this year it got me thinking that Canada is a pretty dang cool country. I mean, they're peaceful, successful, they have resonable rules, pubs, Vancouver seems like a great city plus they hold on to their history and traditions, which I find very valuable. I loved the aboriginese performance. The show was so exciting! I loved the northern lights, the tap-dancing fiddlers look like major fun to hang out with, and the whales were so cool! I'm actually thinking it would be a pretty cool place to live now... ha! My friend Crystal lives in Vermont, that's basically Canada so maybe I should at least visit there before I go making any hasty decisions.... and I'm actually pretty sure the USCG won't station us in Canada. *SIGH* Oh well. It's really cold there anyway. But I'm definitely putting it on my list of places to go.
No, really this sort of thing renews my pride in being an American. For a few weeks, all the little things go away and we get to focus on coming together and cheering our butts off for our fellow Americans. Which, by the way, when all 216 walked in, I thought it was so neat how many nationalities were in the group. We truly are an amazing country. GO USA!!!

On a side note, I was very sad to see that the Jamaican bobsled team did not make it this year!
