Awana

One of the things I love most about the church home we have found here is that they have AWANA for the kids! Awana is a great program that teaches preschool through school age children about Jesus and helps young Christians grow spiritually while they have some fun! Noah is in Sparks and they have a main focus on memorizing scripture. He has a book and works at his own pace, sometimes blowing through chapters! He's so smart! Basically all of my childhood memories have something to do with church or something associated with it so this is so special for me to share with Noah.

Last week, Noah had come to the part where he was learning the books of the New Testament. They gave him a song at Awana to practice with, but he was a little embarassed so I taught him the one I learned when I first learned the books. Learning the books of the New Testament is like a right of passage as a young person in church! I remember being so excited, like I was really somebody - one step closer to being a grown up Christian - after I learned mine :) Well, he worked really hard and he did it! The pride on his face was priceless. There is nothing I love more than when he is genuinely proud of himself! Kevin and I are both so proud of him and how hard he works. Next week he will have completed his whole first book, I'm pretty sure we'll be thinking of a special way to show him how proud of him we are!

Here he is in his vest and with his book and hangglider pin with all his jewel accomplishments on it!
